Check out some of the standout features on the last and greatest Lincoln Continental model.

The Lincoln Continental is arguably the most luxurious of all the American luxobarges. The car is unapologetically focused on the traditional high-end sedan market, the most obvious comparison vehicle would be from Europe, in the form of the S-Class.

The first Continental entered production in 1940, and in 2020, the nameplate celebrated its 80th anniversary. A limited production run of 80 vehicles was commissioned to commemorate the car. In the same year, Lincoln announced the Continental would be culled from its now SUV exclusive line-up. The last generation was powered by a 305-hp 3.7-liter V6 engine as standard, however, more powerful options were available. Here are some of the coolest features the final generation models were fitted out with.

Just like a Rolls-Royce, the Lincoln Continental is fitted with rear-hinged doors at the rear. Known as "coach doors", they are exclusive to the Coach Door Edition. In the regular car, the door is a different shape and extends around the rear wheel arch. The coach doors are far more rectangular.

In order to produce a cleaner look, Lincoln located the car's door handles just below the glass line. This means the handle forms part of the window surround trim, leaving the door panel clear. In the Coach Door edition, the rear handle has been moved forward to the base of the B pillar, next to the front handle.

In the rear, the Continental has a two-seat arrangement, dividing these is a large center console. The seats are very plump and generous, like the finest armchairs. To enhance the comfort levels further, passengers seated behind the front passenger seat can simply slide it forward electronically to enhance the legroom available.

The backrest can be raised and lowered as desired. There is also a three-zone adjustment for spinal support and a massage function.

Between the seats on the fixed rear console, there is a screen and numerous buttons which allow many of the car's functions to be adjusted. The rear benefits from its own climate-controlled zone and the seats can be both heated and cooled.

The rear center console also conveniently houses a storage cubby which is kitted out with a wireless smartphone charging mat. Another power supply option is located further forward, in the form of a domestic socket.

Enabling occupants to enjoy the delights of the sky, as well as providing cooling, is a massive twin-panel "moon roof." A power-retractable front panel slides back providing rear-seat passengers with an unobstructed view of the sky above.

As well as providing a view, the roof contributes to an airy and non-claustrophobic feeling cabin.

The Continental's headlight sport a unique design, making them instantly recognizable when out on the road. Within the headlight's lens, there are five distinctive vertical illuminated zones. Below these, there is a light bar.

In a similar fashion to Audi vehicles, a wave of light ripples across the bar when the car is unlocked and then subsequently re-locked.

A particularly unique feature of the Continental is the inclusion of inflatable seat belts. Should the vehicle be involved in an accident, an airbag mounted along the strap will inflate.

These seat belts help reduce the risk and severity of any injuries by cushioning the body. The airbag helps reduce the force passed to the occupants. Just like a regular airbag, the car determines whether to deploy the inflatable seatbelts based on the force of impact.

The luxury and comfort are not reserved solely for the rear passengers. Up front, the seats are adjustable in ways that are certainly not found on mainstream cars. The front portion of the seat bases is divided into two defined sections.

The sections can be individually extended or contracted, to help provide enhanced levels of thigh support. This functionality is fully electrically operated, occupants simply need to press a button on the doors.

One seriously cool feature of the car is its ability to be locked and unlocked via a combination lock. An illuminated number pad is located on the driver's side B pillar window surround. This enables drivers to access their car without having the physical key. This feature has many practical applications, especially if the driver is a fan of outdoor pursuits such as water sports, and cannot safely carry the key

The car can also be simply locked by pressing an illuminated padlock on the passenger B pillar, provided the key is in the vicinity. On returning to the car, pulling the handle unlocks the car, again as long as the key is nearby. The illuminated padlock provides an instant and easy-to-see indicator of the lock status.
